I know that I will probably get some flack for this post, however, I think I may have a valid point that could be appealing to some. What does cable TV cost these days? I think I saw a commercial for Dish Network for like 39.99 a month. I think that's the cheapest I have seen....Anyways, what if you cut cable TV out of your life? I mean, you can watch just about any show on the internet these days and those you can't you could always rent from Netflix, right? So think about it, forty bucks a month times twelve is 480. You could be saving yourself almost 500 dollars a year without it!
You can still get TV channels by buying an antenna and with HD they come in pretty good. We get 11 channels including all the major non-cable networks. I find myself filling in the time that I would have been channel surfing with other endeavors and spending more quality time with my son. Learn a language, start a blog :), read a book instead. There are countless possibilities of how you could spend your time. Any other suggestions?
Nina, that's so true. I'm thinking of getting rid of my AT&T U-Verse which is about $85 a month. That would give myself a $1020 raise per year!
ReplyDeleteNina, this is awesome :) I have thought about this many times, but the problem I always come back to: Lakers games and college football for Ryan. Any thoughts on how to get that without paying ridiculous cable amounts?? Everything else you say is so true (I pretty much watch EVERYTHING on hulu), but live sports, I just can't give it up!
ReplyDeleteSome companies let you pay per channel...that could ease the pain of cable costs. Another thought is the most basic of basic cable. It includes like 12-15 channels (usually including TNT, where the NBA is broadcast, right?) It usually runs about 12-20 dollars per month...that could help.

ReplyDeleteWe have Verizon Fios...is it the cheapest? Probably not as cheap as you can get (it's like 44.99 a month or something). However, it allows me to do everything I want quickly (downloading from the internet, watching videos online, etc.) and I've never had a technical problem with it (just not working for long periods of time)....knock on wood. Reliability and the customer service are what rank high in my mind. Verizon has always been great when I've called regardless of what service I called about.
